Meditation for August: Celebrating Abundance
Thursday, July 31, 7:00–8:00 PM ET
Saturday, August 2, 12:00–1:00 PM ET
Across time and cultures, people have organized their lives around the rhythms of the seasons. The cycle of the year is marked by eight key points: the solstices, the equinoxes, and the midpoints between them. Sometimes called the Great Wheel of the Year, this eightfold pattern reflects nature’s cycles of growth, change, death, and renewal. In eventful times, this annual cycle offers a steady rhythm—an invitation to pause and reconnect with the world around us.
The next gathering honors the midpoint between the summer solstice and the fall equinox. This is the time, in ancestral and agricultural terms, when the first grains are gathered and we begin to reap what we’ve sown.
Metaphorically, it’s a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made this year—acknowledging what’s flourishing, recognizing the fruits of our efforts, and considering where there is abundance in our lives. We may still have work to do, but we can pause to assess our growth and choose how to move forward. Does your current path feel aligned with your values and vision for this year? If so, keep going. If not, it’s not too late to change your course.
This class includes:
Optional: Feel free to bring an object that symbolizes nourishment or abundance for you. This might be a flower, fruit, or vegetable; a candle, crystal, or other item in harvest colors (gold, yellow, orange, or green); or something as simple as a piece of bread or a handful of grains.

“We were made for these times. It’s not that we are so special. It’s that we are being called by the world itself to come forward and serve the world with our unique gifts and talents.” —Joy Harjo, U.S. Poet Laureate (2019–2022)
When we’re navigating worry or upheaval, it can be hard to know how to come forward and serve. The needs are many, and the urgency (and distractions) can feel relentless. That makes it even more important to find ways to steady ourselves—because taking care of ourselves in this way helps us care for the world around us.
Mindfulness offers simple, steadying practices to help us stay grounded and clear—even (especially) as we face what’s hard.
This six-week series explores mindfulness practices to support you in meeting the challenges of daily life with greater presence and compassion. Each one-hour session builds on the last, weaving together guided meditations, brief teachings, and space for reflection and discussion.
Together, we’ll explore:
Sessions are accessible to both newer and experienced meditators (though if you're brand new to meditation, consider taking an introductory course first). You’ll leave with practical tools and insights to support you—no matter what’s unfolding in or around you.
